Greetings, Filmmakers!
I'm teaching two Film & Video courses at Foothill College in Spring Quarter--VART 84 Video Editing and MUS 81B Sound Design for Film & Video. Both courses are hybrids, meaning you have the option of taking them in-person or online. Either way, you have access to the IDEA Center computer lab, which features current video and audio software like Final Cut, Soundtrack, Pro Tools, etc. The content is basically the same for the in-person and online sections, except that if you come to class, you get the benefit of hearing the lectures and having more interaction with the instructor. Although Sound Design is listed as a music class, you don't have to be a musician to take it. The course is really about the under-appreciated art of post-production Sound Effects, Editing and Mixing. Good sound design can greatly enhance the production value of your projects, for very little expense. Video Editing and Sound Design really work hand-in-hand to create a polished, finished product. Registration began yesterday for continuing students, and starts March 15th for new students. Classes start the week of April 5th. Because of budget issues, it's critical for classes to fill early in order to avoid cancellation. So if you're going to enroll, do it as soon as possible (definitely by March 22nd). You can always change your schedule or drop a class later, but if the class doesn't go, you won't have the choice. Registration fees are $42.50 for the quarter ($12.50 of which are voluntary), plus $17 per class unit. Such a bargain! You can check the searchable Schedule of Classes online for more information, or contact me here. Hope to see some of you in either or both classes! Best, RJ Ward Edited by R.J.
